Gabe's Blog for January 24

Today in Western Civilization we generally watched a documentary called "Guns, Germs, and Steel". This documentary was hosted by Jared Diamond. It was based on the "Haves and the have nots". This documentary was documented in Papua New Guinea and how they are living in such different modern lives then us Americans are. Jared or "Diamond" is a biologist, physiologist, bird watcher, and a college professor at UCLA.  The background of people living in New guinea is about 40,000 years. Yali, a man living in New guinea, said this phrase that stuck with diamond for as far in the video as we got. "You white men have so much cargo, while we New Guineans have so little." This means that  people who live in modern day society complain about such little things with their prized possesions while New Guineans dont even have the opportunity to understand what a Iphone is. New guineans also explained how they thought the british had power because of race. This was actually upsetting to see two white men make other human beings carry them, because they thought they were more valueable.
