Blog for Jan 29th

Today in our fourth Western Civilization class we continued to watch "Guns, Germs, and steel". We unveiled more discussions with all the students in the class about different topics relating to the video. Jack Diamond mainly talked about geographic luck and all the levels you can have with the luck. Papa New guinea if, unfortunately, a great example of the not so lucky region. Through the video, we talked about how you can domesticate plants the same way you can domesticate animals.  We also learned very cool/ interesting facts that go along with geographic luck. There are 14 animals that are omnivors and weigh over 100 pounds. These can be very beneficial when it comes to getting work done. Unfortunately for New guinea, don’t have much materialistic animals for help. The 14 animals are

-Pigs
-Cows
-Goats
-Sheep
-Caves
-Horses
-Donkeys
-Bactrian camel
-Arabian camel
-Yaks
-Reindeer
-Water Buffalo
-Llamas
-Bali cattle
-Mithais

None are native to New guinea at all.
