Today in western civilization we had a substitute. it was really quiet because kylie wasn't there. (good and a bad thing). My part in the project i couldnt do at school so i just did other homework. When Kylie came in class 10 minutes before lunch, i was happy to talk to someone! Kylie and i were laughing about her concussing the rest of the mod. (Or atleast i was). She tried to steal my phone so she could get on it because hers is taken away due to her head injury haha!

Today in western civilization i had to make up the quiz i was absent for. I mean i felt i did average on it. Which is exactly how i did. Liuckily Mr. Schick saw i made a mistake that was really clear i knew the answer for. That brought my grade up which is amazing! Today is the last day of the quarter so i am happy i brought it up as much as i could!

Blog for March 21st
Today in western civilization, we finished the Greece presentation and then after we went over it to highlight what will be on the test.
Notes-
Greek-
Iron weapons meant ordinary citizens would afford to arm themselves.
foot soldiers
armed with spears swords shields
often fought in a phalanx formation
"home field" advantage
motivated to preserve
Persian-
1st archers (could shoot very far)
then calvary
lightly armored infantry
huge numbers
a long way from home
professional army
So after we took the rest of the notes I wrote down every slide title he said the information was going to be on the test.
Note for me-
Hopefully, I do well because i have a list of criteria on the test!

Today in Western civ, i was put in a group with Kylie, Grace and Stefan. the group is fun and our main focal point is surrounding gods and goddesses. I mean i dont know too much about any type of god so i had to do some research. for the project we need to have an extra presentable object and i had a great idea of making cupcakes but each one is dedicated to a certain god. for example, put a lightning bult on a cupcake for Zues, a wave/ ocean looking one for Poeisidon. Mr. Schick wanted us to dresss up like the gods and goddesses, but sorry to say that was out of the question! Before i had the cupcake idea, i thought we could make a poster. So me and kylie asked the teacher if we could go to the art wing to use a piece of poster paper. It took a bit longer than exspected but at the end we got it! i am looking forward to the grade because it seems like fun between our group.

---------------------------------------------------------------
eventually leading to...... cleisthenes
more reforms (around 500 BCE)
-allowed all citizens to submit laws for debate at the assembly

Blog for March 9th 2019
Today in Western Civ, we took notes and listen to our teachers exspierience with abuse from teachers/nuns!
Notes:
Even more geography
although fertile valleys cover one quarter of the peninsula, only about 20% is arable (suitable for farming)
their diets consist of grains, grapes, olives, and fish
lack of resources most likely led greek colonization
back then, temperatures ranged mid 40's in winter, low 80's in the summer-even though it could get hot
(summer)
it was nice year round
Some early peoples 1st Mycenaeans
their influence began around 2000 bce
Mycenae is located on a rocky ridge on Peloponnesus, protected by a 20 foot thick wall
mycenaen kings dominated greece 1600-1100 bce
controlled trade in region
there is a little bit more notes but i wanted to talk about how much entertainment was served when mr. schick talked about his experience at school. it is nice to know that a teacher is understanding and aware of school not being the best thing in our minds.

Blog for March 8th
Today in western civilization, mr schick showed us a powerpoint full of facts/ hints toward our next graded assignment. after we were finished, we had to finish getting notes from the text book.
general notes:
2000 islands in the aegean/ ionian seas
the sea shaped greek civilization just as rivers shaped the ancient civilizations of Egypt, the fertile crescent, India, and china
all lived around the sea
took 85 miles to get to the coast
mountains divided the land into a nu,ber of different regions
ancient times, uneven terrain also made land transportation difficult
(mostly dirt paths)
climate was the 3rd most important environmental influence on greek civilization
48 degrees in the winter
80 degrees in the summer
a large wave of info europeans migrated from the eurasian steppes to Europe
I think that greek culture is very interesting and im excited to learn about in the future! Plus I just got told that I am going to greece next summer.
