Blog for February 22nd

In Western Civilization class, we had time to catch up on previous papers i was not there for. There was two papers, one yellow and one blue. Since i wasn't there, i had to ask for those papers. Mr. Schick told me he would give me the papers after he graded everyone else's papers. So, while i was waiting i took notes from the text book to be productive. Once he finished grading he told me he had to run down stairs to give me and another student the papers. When he returned, he gave me both papers. I started to work on the yellow paper, which was surprisingly easy, and got that done before class was over. 5 minutes before class ended he gave mine back and fortunetly, I got a 8/8!!! I was happy because it brought my grade up to an eighty point forty five. The last few minutes I started to plan in my calendar for planning assignments to do over the weekend.

Blog for February 15th

Today in western civilization, I got there super early. It was basically pitch black in the classroom, which I like. During the period, we generally took notes. Since we did not have his class yesterday, he wasnt able to tell us the story of Valentine's day. I was already aware of the story, because i have to do a presentation on him in intro to bible. During the not taking i learned,
-sumer is the land between the Tigris and Euphrates river
-the population started to increased because of the new irrigation techniques
-40,000 inhabitants were founded
-kings emerged through dynasties... (dynasties are royal families)
-Sumerians invented cuniform. A written language on tablets
-cuniform was one of the earliest forms of writing
-*pantheon means a large number of*
-a pantheon of Sumerians god and goddesses emerged
-worlds first epic was the Sumerians “epic
Also, today a person behind me told me that a girl who had 1.1 million followers on Instagram was shadowing with a friend of hers. Unfortunately, after searching all day, we are convinced she didn’t shadow at John Carroll. Over all the class was very enthusiastic and impacted the day.

Feb 7th Blog

Today in Western Civilization, I became aware of what happened in the previous class because i was absent. My friend Kylie told me that we were looking in the text book and taking important facts from each page (revolving around a certain subject). I thought it was a different and interesting way of gathering knowledge because I was so used to having Mr. Fendryek and him just talking for most of class. In this class, it is become a lot more independent which i am ready for.  While we were taking notes, some kids were joking around with Mr. Schick. It makes the period go a lot less stressful because he likes to have students entertained rather than bored. When the teacher told us to stop taking notes and see what we have come up with., I didn’t really raise my hand to give my input. I had all the answers and reasons, I just kept quiet.

Feb 6th Blog

I was unfortunately absent from class today due to sickness.

Feb. 5th blog

Today in Western Civilization, we took a test on the documentary "Guns, Germs, and Steel". The test wasn't too dificult to where i had to use all of class time to finish. I think i passed the test but i know i couldve done better. Since the test was 2 pages long i thought that once we finished our test we would be going onto a new subject. The reason I was five minutes behind everyone else (when taking the test) is because i couldn't remember one animals for "Name 4 of the 14 animals that weigh over a 100 pounds and can be domesticated." Luckily i got the answer after taking those extra minutes to focus. When i finished I soon realized that we had the rest of class to just relax. It was a good start of the day. I heard one of my close friends say that the next day we would be taking notes from the text book. ***Reason I was late for this blog is because I have been sick***

Jan 31st WC Blog

Today I was excited for this period to see one of my closest friends. This class is generally very entertaining and fun, so it wasn’t too hard to be positive. In class we finished "Guns, Germs and Steel". The class was extra fun because we had fun and ate bread, all while watching the documentary. * Notes*  (Fertile crescent, 20 mill. tons per year of wheat in America, New Guinea isn't completely excluded from society due to their clothes and shovels, tools etc. Around the coast of New guinea, is where the cities are.) We talked about how their will be a test on Tuesday, February 5th. It may run smoothly, just because i have actually been paying close attention and taking notes throughout this entire class time. Jared Diamond made an incredible documentary, that i can think about for how incredibly grateful i am.
